Can you imagine anything more romantic than spending a weekend in Paris? This is our guide on how to do it, from going to the opera, to eating epic food. Renowned for its café culture, culinary scene, designer boutiques and arts, Paris is not just the city of love, but also one of Europe’s greatest cultural hubs.

Weekend in Paris

Whether you are an art enthusiast wishing to see The Louvre, an adventure seeker interested in Paris’ darker secrets like the catacombs, or a foodie in search of the perfectly baked baguette, The French capital will sure manage to conquer your heart.
Walk around wide French boulevards, marvel at baroque and art nouveau architecture, eat freshly baked croissants and indulge in world’s greatest patisserie.

Landmarks

When you think of Paris you immediately think of the Eiffel Tower, one of France’s most iconic constructions. Although most people take the lift to the top, I recommend skipping the queue and earning your view, by climbing its 1665 steps. For art lovers, the Louvre is an obvious attraction. Being the most visited museum in the world, the Louvre Museum is home to Leonardo Da Vinci’s masterpiece, The Mona Lisa.

The Notre Dame, L’Arc de Triomphe, Palace of Versailles are just a few of Paris’ well acclaimed and loved tourist attractions, making the French capital one of the world’s top destinations, receiving over 22.4 million visitors a year.

Paris Night

Cafés

I am a coffee lover, thus sitting and sipping my morning hot beverage in a Parisian café is among the finest pleasures of this wonderful city. Many French restaurants are closed after lunch and before dinner, which means that cafés are a great place for a quick pick me up snack.

Most cafés have the service charge included in the menu price, although if you truly enjoyed the service, you can always tip extra. Being polite by addressing the waiter with Monsieur and adding a nice S’il vous plait, can go a long way in Paris.

Architecture

Exploring Parisian streets and discovering a myriad of architectural styles is one of the greatest joys of being in Paris. Find impressive Gothic achievements such as the Notre Dame, enjoy Rococo at the Palace of Versailles and marvel at the L’Arc de Triomphe, a neoclassicist statement. Top it all up by visiting the incredible Palais Garnier, a building of exceptional opulence full of Neo-Baroque elements. Don’t forget to give modern architecture a try by visiting some of Le Corbusier’s most impressive works, as well as the acclaimed Centre Pompidou.

Food

There is so much insanely delicious, unbelievable food in Paris. From Ladurée macarons and morning croissants to a vast variety of tasty French fromage. There is no right or wrong list of best food to eat in Paris, you will just have to dig into whatever looks most appealing to you. I made a habit of spending a few weekends in Paris just to try more varieties of salami, seafood, cheeses, pastries and wines. Whoever said love goes through your stomach, totally thought of Paris.

Arts & Culture

The best visits to Paris are the cultural ones. I particularly enjoyed my last weekend in Paris when I indulged myself in a night out at Palais Garnier to see a great piece of modern ballet by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
Of course, if you find yourself in Paris you must visit the Louvre. Although always busy, it’s a brilliant museum with an astounding art collection. Centre Pompidou will tickle your imagination, especially if you are like me, very much into the international contemporary scene. This is the best place to enjoy works by Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol.

Boulevards

Wide, airy boulevards, dotted with bistros and cafés, boutiques and independent sweet shops, that’s Paris alright. Although you are in one of Europe’s busiest cities, just take it easy and enjoy a stroll around. I love to imagine the greatest world artists, walking down the same boulevards as I am. Imagine their enthusiasm, their dedication and their love for the arts. Paris is amazing.

Fashion

Paris is famed for its fashion week, designer boutiques and the vast amount of department stores. Whether you want to shop, or just get some great fashion inspiration, Paris is the perfect place for it. Many premier fashion designers started in France, and Paris is home to many internationally known names including Chanel, Pierre Cardin, Céline, Chloe, Dior, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hermès, Lanvin, Rochas, Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent.

Romance

A weekend in Paris can’t be completed without a fair share of romance. Known as the city of love, many couples come here to celebrate their relationships, whilst many solo travellers visit Paris to fall in love with the city itself. I mostly enjoy a romantic hand in hand stroll by the river Seine, followed by a picnic on Champ de Mars, admiring the Eiffel Tower. A great alternative is to rent a bike and explore the street of Paris cycling side by side.
